Last weekend was the Color Run in Indianapolis and Team Runner by Default decided to make a weekend out of it and stay overnight downtown. We made our way over to the packet pick up to grab all of our swag. We got t-shirts, headbands, tattoos, and packets of extra color to play with.
On our way back to the hotel, we stopped at a bar and sat outside to wait on the rest of our team to get in to town. We may or may not have had one (or 5!) of these!
We sat at the bar until dinner at 7. There were a lot of events taking place downtown that weekend and there were at least 4 police officers on each street corner. We were lucky that the whole team made it to P.F. Chang’s without being arrested for public intoxication!! Sitting in the heat and drinking beer all afternoon really knocks you for a loop once you stand up!!
7 am came awfully early, especially after all the beverages from the night before.
Team Runner By Default: Before
I couldn’t get over how many participants there were. The line of people at the start went for miles!!
There were color stations at every 1k along the 5k course. Most of us walked but a few ran at the end when the course narrowed to a thin trail. After we crossed the finish line, we made our way to stage area where they were having color explosions every 10-15 minutes. It was so cool! The color would go up and hang in the air and made us feel like we were in a cloud or something.
Team Runner By Default: After
We thought we were really colorful at the end but it just didn’t translate as well in pictures. We also didn’t have our own color packets (I didn’t want to carry them for 3 miles!) so we didn’t get doused in color like others did. It was still a great time and I would definitely do it again. It is a great family-friendly event also.
Playing in the dust
I had to really scrub to get all the color off my skin. I didn’t think it would be that hard to remove. I also made the mistake of wearing a pair of really old shoes and I paid for that.
Needless to say, those shoes stayed behind at the hotel. I have no use for them now! It makes me wonder how I ever wore them to run.
Overall, Team Runner By Default had a successful weekend and can’t wait for the next race. Maybe another mud run next?
